Walmart is definatly going crazy opening everywhere, however with the gas prices these days (although we've got it better than most) it would be nice not to have to drive 15-20 miles just to go shopping.  I have just moved here, and also noticed lack of signs.  So far as I have noticed the only shopping is brookshires.

Tried and tried and tried to open that first link...
then even went to the walmart watch site and tried
from there.
Never could get to it.
I guess the file is just too big.
If anyone can copy what it says about Quinlan I'd
appreciate it!

Here's another link (the ?forwarding? url seems to keep changing from the original referenced in the last article I posted.)

http://fivestones.sitestream.com/docs/walmart-openings-2006.pdf

The contents are in a table format with numerous upcoming stores so it's hard to post it exactly as shown here as text.  The Quinlan info is:

4215 Quinlan TX NEW SUP 0 9/11/06 Y

The table header labels above that info is:

Str# City St Proj Typ Str Typ Str Size Poss Date This Month Poss Date Last Month TLE.

Okay thanks Jeff,
it almost opened that time!
So then, well it says to be open Sept 11 2006.
I still wonder where it will be exactly,
all I know is south of 276 on 34.
Has any work started yet?
Seems like a HUGE project, with new roads
and red lights and all.
Should be seeing something by now ???

In today's Quinlan paper...
Walmart has requested a signal light at Kirby and Hwy 34 intersection.
It says the store will be built next year, and open in '07.
In other news a permit is approved for a shopping center on 276 next to the Shell station there by 751.
I've seen the sign there and wondered when something was gonna happen.

I just read the article.  Perhaps the 9/11/06 date in that Wal-Mart document is the date of the start of construction?  Does anyone know what store(s) will be at the "Quinlan Retail Center" by 751?

Any word on this one? That will be the closest retail place to me.

From today's Quinlan-Tawakoni News:

Wal-Mart begins work

Super Center building permit, fees $45,677.48

Quinlan Wal-Mart Super Center construction got underway Thursday.  Quinlan City Counsultant Billy Green, fourth from right, said Wal-Mart purchased a building permit Wednesday at a cost of $26,471.20 and paid plan review fees for the building of $17,206.28 and an additional $2,000 for review of its locatoin and parking plans.

Bulldozers moved on the property and began moving dirt on Thursday. Green said Progressive Contractors, Inc. of Little Rock, Ark., was the contractor.  The building is expected to cover 155,000 square feet.

I can't wait! I hate the Walmart in Terrell and would rather be spending the money in my own town.

Which one is closer....Terrell or Greenville?
I head to Greenville, since there are some other things there (my bank, drug stores, Church's chicken, Home Depot, etc.) and do occasionally go to WalMart. They have been doing some upgrades, not much but some.
I should check out Terrell too.

We are on Kitsee Knoll, just a mile north of the Hunt/Kaufman county line. Terrell is closer for us than Greenville, but still plenty far. I think it's 22 miles from our house to Walmart, but I usually stop on my way home from work in Dallas.

And while I haven't been to the Walmart in Greenville, I can safely say that you don't want to go to Terrell looking for an upgraded Walmart. It's poorly laid out, the parking lot is horrendous.

I expect the one in Quinlan will be much nicer.
