Trying to find a new place to hunt
Oct 23rd, 2006, 2:28pm

Fellow hunters.  I was out at the lake this weekend looking for a few new places to hunt.  I ususally hunt over by Duck Cove but don't see that happening anytime soon.  I found a place that I like, however, it will be a far boat ride from any open boat ramp.  Is it legal to camp near the shore on undeveloped land.  It would be easier to do that than have to boat across the lake early in the morning. Undecided

It depends on who owns the land and if you have there permission.  I would hate to hear you got shot for trespassing.
Then again if it belongs to SRA like most of it does they will fine you, if they find out you did without a permit or a lease agreement.
My advice would be to call and ask them depending on where it is.

Thanks for the reply.  I understand what you are saying.  I wonder if Tawakoni, being a TYPE II lake that there would be different rules.  I'll make some phone calls.  Thanks again

I called SRA. They said the TYPE II camping is restricted to the 3 TP&WL areas that are listed as WMA.  If its not WMA land or private land with permission to camp then camping is not allowed.  That stinks!!!!!!  Looks like SRA needs to make improvements to the lake and boat ramps to give boaters/hunters better access to the lake.  What are the chances of that happening? By the looks of the lake now, I guess its gonna take an act of congress!!!
