City Council Elections:  It's that time again
Mar 06th, 2009, 8:46am

Hi everyone.  Thanks for viewing this post.  I would like to find out what is on everyone's mind this year for the city council elections.  My thought is to use this forum to get opinions from our online folks, and find out what the hot topics will be this year.  Then we can get together with the candidates and find out their stand on the issues.  Please allow me to start off with a few items:

1) Police, Fire and Animal control - always a concern with most everyone.  I think everyone is aware that there are areas around the lake where the meth houses have taken over, and we surely don't want that here.

2) My wife and I were considering purchasing a couple of acres for our horses, but found out that one sitting councilman has shot down a citizen's request to put horses on his land.

I would ask everyone who reads this to please give their own opionions on items 1 and 2, and please add additional items as you see fit.  I will go "on record" as pro Police, Fire, animal control and pro livestock for citizens that have sufficient acreage.

I don't think we can successfully elect a city council unless we know what we want, and know where these candidates stand on the issues.

Thanks again for your consideration.

Hello neighbor.
I'm on Old Mill Lane.
Remember the new business we almost got up on the highway
a while back?
I want that!
I want a diner.
We need revenue to fix up the parks
and the ditches
and tear down the unsafe buildings.

Yes, I have heard about the proposal for Emory to sell beer/wine.  Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing that is in our control on that issue.   Personally I have very mixed emotions about that.  While I feel that it is a good idea for the drunks to drive as short of a distance as possible. This doesn't mean I think that everyone who buys beer and wine are driving around drunk, but I think you can understand what I am saying here...

The other side of that coin is I'm afraid that if passed that the resolution will absolutely kill E Tawakoni's sales tax revenue.

What are your thoughts on that one ?

no contested races in west tawakoni so no election this year
if emory approves beer/wine- it will hurt both east and west tawakoni
just like greenville's recent approval will hurt

There is really not much of an argument against beer sales for any town in the area.
I always thought it was totally ridiculous the times that Greenville voted it down with Neylandville sitting on the outskirts.
The revenue can be put to good use there. If it will be is another question entirely.

Wills Point also has beer/wine on the ballot this year.  I agree with pros and cons, but why have to drive 30 minutes -- why not keep the revenue within your own town?  I can understand where it may hurt West/East Tawakoni -- but I bet it won't -- there'll still be plenty of people wanting to buy to go around!!
