A mixed-use development covering hundreds of acres is being proposed for the shores of Lake Tawakoni, provided organizers can receive the necessary change in zoning for the project.

The Lake Tawakoni Planning Commission is scheduled to meet this afternoon to consider whether to approve the proposed Oak Branch Development. The panel is set to convene at 1 p.m. in the West Tawakoni City Hall.

The Oak Branch Development is proposed as a planned community, featuring approximately 1,000 homes on about 400 acres along Farm-To-Market Road 751, just south of Shoreline Road. The project as proposed also includes green spaces and areas for commercial development.

The organizers are seeking a change from the current single family zoning to planned development, which will allow for a mixture of uses within the boundaries of the project.

The Commission is also scheduled today to consider a requested change in zoning from the current agricultural to planned development for the proposed Villages of Lone Oak project, which is expected to be located just east of Wind Point Park.
